International Adoption
Eligibility Requirements:
- At least one applicant must be a U.S. Citizen.
- If you are unmarried, you must be at least 25 years old
- If you are married, you must jointly adopt the child (even if you are separated but not divorced), and your spouse must also be either a U.S. citizen or in legal status in the United States.
- You must meet certain requirements that will determine your suitability as a prospective adoptive parent, including criminal background checks, fingerprinting, and a home study.
Our team will assist each family throughout the selection process for eligibility verification for both general and country specific requirements.
The Process
Our professional staff will provide adoptive parents with information, counseling, and support through every step of the international adoption process.
Step 1: Application
During the application process, staff will review your information to determine which country programs you qualify for.
Step 2: Home Study and Training
The home study process is a series of meetings with a social worker for a full assessment in order to match you with a child you are best suited to parent.
During the home study process, staff will work with you to choose a country program and complete the proper paperwork for that country.
You will also complete required trainings to prepare for the international adoption process and to be an adoptive parent.
Step 3: Dossier Authentication
Staff will work with you to complete all required forms and submit the proper information to our referral source in your chosen country program. They will review your information to refer a child best suited to your needs and abilities as a parent.
Step 4: Travel
Upon acceptance of a child referral, you will travel to the country to meet your child and complete the steps for placement or adoption in that country.
Step 5: Post Placement/Post-Adoption
Each country’s program has different requirements for the frequency or duration of post-placement/post-adoption services. Our staff will provide those services after you return home with your child. Additional services will also be available to assist with any adjustment difficulties or concerns.
During this time we will also assist with finalization of the adoption in the U.S., naturalization or citizenship requirements.
